So lately I have had a few persons ask me that question.
Let's get right into some suggestions on what you can do. I'll share three!
Start by doing Market Research
Do broad research, identify trends, demands and potential gaps. What problem can you identify? Reflect on your daily experiences and/or challenges faced by those in your community. If you can solve a common problem it can be the basis of a lucrative business idea. By having this foundational knowledge helps in your future business idea with what consumers need or lack, this validates your idea.
Determine your strengths and interests
Go inside, taking a look at your own strengths and interests can guide you toward a business that is not only viable but also fulfilling. So, reflect on what you’re good at or passionate about. This is a good start that can help you lead to a sustainable business idea. So dabble, leverage your personal passions and hobbies. Offer services or help to others where you’d like to start your business.
Build a Network
When I started my entrepreneur journey, I was a loner. I did not want to tell anyone my ideas for them to steal them and I preferred to work alone. I never realised the value of having a network. Now you may have heard of the African proverb, "If you want to go fast, go alone, if you want to go far, go together."
Having a network is indispensable. And it is easy to get started. Use the connections you already know, they may be industry professionals, potential mentors, other friends in business. By building relationships early on, even before your business idea is fully formed is invaluable. You will get encouragement, support and meet people who know what you don't.
So how can a person start a business, with no ideas?
Do your research, identify problems that you can possibly solve.
Determine your own strengths and interests, what are you good at and most passionate about.
Build a network, and even if you still have an idea, connect and engage with like-minded persons and persons who know what you don’t.
I hope this helps you as you start on your journey to entrepreneurship. And if you have already started, but somehow are still looking to find that sweet spot, you too can use this info.
